How to book hotels in Vietnam

Vietnam is emerging as one of Asia’s must-see tourist destinations. With excellent beaches, scenic countryside and vibrant cities, it has something to suit all tastes. The largest selection of hotels will be found in the cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An, but you will also find plenty of accommodations in Vietnam’s beach resorts and on its islands. Take time to research hotels before you book and you should find decent places to stay.

Check out websites, such as Asia Rooms and Vietnam, that concentrate on hotels in Vietnam and Asia; you can search across a range of listings in cities and in beach resorts. Also consider which amenities are most important to you — for example a gym, a restaurant or parking. Asia Rooms will let you filter hotels to check for features like smoking rooms, facilities for the disabled and 24-hour reception.

Use a search engine to determine if hotels you like have their own websites. A hotel’s site will provide further information about features and amenities. Contact the hotel through its website with additional questions; you may even be able to negotiate a reduced price on an extended stay.

Visit the website of the Vietnam Tourist Board. It provides links to the websites of many hotels, although it does not provide details or price comparisons.

Check travel websites, such as TripAdvisor, for independent reviews of hotels from recent guests, with ratings and comments about the best and worst features. Reviews often include information about nearby attractions, bars and restaurants. Take a look on Tripadvisor’s Vietnam discussion forum.

Use the information you have gathered to complete your reservation online, making a note of any deposit paid. Keep your online confirmation with your other travel documents.
